The Atlantis targets the luxury market more, and is considered among the two finest hotels in the city, with a 4 diamond rating from AAA, an award held by only one other casino hotel in Reno, the Peppermill, their main competition here. While the casino here is of a pretty modest size, with only about 65,000 square feet of gaming space, it is one of the city’s most popular and most profitable casinos, partly due to their attracting more affluent clientele.
The Atlantis started out as the Golden Road Motor Inn in 1972, a 142 room motel. The name of the motel changed several times over the years, to Travelodge, Quality Inn, and the Clarion Reno, all under the ownership of the Fahari family, who still own the property today through their company Monarch Casino and Resort Inc.
In 1991 it saw its first expansion, and the owners claimed that it would be the first of many, and they were true to their word. In total, $150 million have been spent on upgrades, bringing it from a motel to a world class luxury casino resort.
There are further plans to expand it even more in the coming years, as they want to keep growing and keep making the Atlantis bigger and better as time goes on.
